The Angel Of Water (AOW) Open System is a Class 2 medical device which is registered with the FDA. It is a popular alternative to the Closed System for colon hydrotherapy in Boulder.

As an open loop system, the filtered water enters the lumen through a pencil-sized rectal nozzle. When the client chooses to release, meaning to empty the effluent, rather than the waste being contained in a separate waste hose as used with the closed system, the contents is discharged from the body into a receptacle area built into the open system fiberglass table which then drains into the sewer.

Due to this loop of water and effluent being interrupted by air, this is referred to as an open loop or open system. This is the primary distinction between the two types of systems - open and closed.

Many people believe the advantage to the open system may include: The client self-operating the device in privacy; the smaller rectal nozzle; and urination is possible.

Possible disadvantage: The client remains supine and cannot change positions.

Erroneous statements and claims.

Using the closed system, the colon therapist does not insert the speculum which is the diameter of .10 cents.

The speculum is single use medical grade plastic with two separate hoses, one for filtered water in and one for waste out.

All FDA registered class 2 colon hydrotherapy equipment is safe when the therapist follows the manufacturer's recommendations for operation and sanitation. Please confirm the device you will use is Class 2.

Colon hydrotherapy is safe when the therapist adheres to the guidelines, policies, and procedures of I-ACT.

By irrigating the large intestine and removing the contents of the bowel, colon hydrotherapy does not make it clean.

The muscles of the large intestine cannot be exercised and do not become stronger by colon hydrotherapy.

Maximum pressure is not the water flow rate entering the lumen but the resistance to it. All manufacturers of class 2 closed equipment agree, 1.5 and never greater than 2.0 psi as the maximum resistance limit. In our clinic and school we practice and teach 1.0 psi is an adequate maximum resistance limit, with the water flow rate at .25 psi.

However, understanding the physiology of the alimentary tract and especially the ENS, these are of greatest importance when considering the open and closed system.

James is trained and certified to operate the AOW open system. James is one of only a hand-full of colon hydrotherapy instructors in the U.S.A. that is authorized as Instructor to provide the AOW open system manufacturer's device training.

Please know and understand James only uses the Closed System for all Colon Hydrotherapy private sessions and Trainings.
